Quality and Materials
Frames
The frames of our sofas are made of high-quality plywood and kiln-dried hardwood. This ensures their durability and longevity.
A sofa frame made of plywood with solid wood has two major advantages over a sofa made of solid wood alone. These advantages include longer durability and greater stability.
1. Increased durability: One of the main advantages of a sofa frame made of plywood with solid wood is its increased durability. Plywood is made by layering thin sheets of wood veneer and bonding them together with glue. This construction method creates a strong and robust material that is less prone to warping, cracking or splitting compared to solid wood. The multiple layers of plywood distribute the weight evenly across the frame, making it more resistant to stress and strain. This increased durability ensures that the sofa frame withstands regular use and lasts for a longer period of time without significant wear and tear.
2. Increased stability: Another advantage of a plywood sofa frame over solid wood is its increased stability. Plywood has a cross-grain structure, i.e. the grain of each layer runs perpendicular to the neighbouring layers. This cross-grain construction ensures excellent dimensional stability and reduces the risk of the frame expanding or contracting due to temperature or humidity fluctuations. As a result, the sofa frame remains structurally stable and retains its shape over time. The added stability also contributes to better weight distribution, which prevents excessive stress on certain areas of the frame and ensures even support for the cushions and upholstery.
